About Us

Since inception, Select Civil has enjoyed great working relationships with some of Australia’s leading construction, civil and waste companies providing them with quality civil contracting, wet/dry plant hire and waste handling services.

Our history working alongside both private and public clients includes: Cleanaway, Veolia, Thiess Services, Wollongong City Council, WaterNSW, Boral Quarries, Shoalhaven City Council, Shellharbour City Council, CPB, John Holland, Daracon, BHP Billiton, Richard Crookes Constructions, Sydney Water and NSW Department of Public Works.

Select Civil currently employs over 100 personnel, including project managers, engineers, supervisors, plant operators, skilled labour, mechanics, plant fitters and office staff to maintain and carry out our projects. Our experience in construction includes: complex and integrated civil construction, road construction, bridge construction, sports court development, stormwater drainage, landfill cell construction, watermain upgrades and wastewater pump station construction and mine remediation. This diverse experience and the skillset of our team gives us a stable base for new and challenging projects.

Current & recent contracts, some in excess of $15 million – demonstrate Select Civil’s ability to take on, manage & successfully complete large-scale construction projects of any nature.

Select Civil currently holds Quality Assurance Certification to ISO 9001 and runs accredited WHS & Environmental Management System to ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 standards for the provision of construction and engineering works, plant hire services and landfill services.

1976

Company Established

Select Civil first established as Southern Formwork Constructions.

1987

Select Civil Pty Ltd established

Southern Formwork Constructions become Select Civil Pty Ltd

2001

Select Civil joins Groupe Poisson

Select Civil are purchased by Groupe Poisson a major provider to the European waste industry as a venture into the Australian waste & construction industry.

2005

Leadership Change

Renaud Chauvet joins Select Civil as Managing Director

2008 to 2009

Corrarong Sewage Scheme

Select Civil construct the Currarong Sewage Scheme for Shoalhaven City Council. With a value of over $10M this project was our largest to date and involved construction of 11km of Gravity Reticulation, 14km of Pressure transfer main and 3 separate pump stations.

2008 - 2010

South Coast Correctional Centre

Select Civil carry out all civil works for the SCCC including clearing of 32 hectares of bush, bulk earthworks for the site, roads, detention basins and other infrastructure such as pump stations. Project completion was achieved in 2010.

Jan 2009

NSW Waste Services Commence

January 2009 marks the commencement of Select Civil's first Landfill Services Contract at Elizabeth Drive Waste Facility in Western Sydney. This would later expand in 2011 to include Lucas Heights Resource Recovery Centre in South Sydney and the Newline Road Resourec Recovery Centre in Raymond Terrace.

2012 to 2013

Peppertree Quarry Construction

Select Civil are awarded the civil's contract for the Boral's Peppertree Quarry at Marulan. This $8.5M project consisted of pouring approximately 8500m3 of concrete with over 2500T of reinforcing steel and over 3000 hold down bolts within a 6mm accuracy.

May 2012

Victorian Waste Services Commence

Select Civil commence operations at Melbourne Regional Landfill in Victoria. Initial operations contracted to Boral Resources under the Deer Park Landfill name before transitioning to MRL under Cleanaway. This is the first of 3 sites to be run for Cleanaway in Western & Eastern Melbourne before transferring to operations at the Suez Hallam Road site in 2017.

Sept 13 to April 15

Whytes Gully Cell Construction

Construction of a 50,000m2 piggyback Cell liner for Wollongong City Council at their Whytes Gully Landfill Facility.

Nov 2013

WA Landfill Services Operations Commence

Select Civil take our first step into the WA market with the provision of Landfill Services at the South Cardup Landfill near Byford to the South East of the Perth CBD. At the closure of the South Cardup Landfill Select were contracted to provide services at the next Suez site situated at North Bannister just off the Albany Highway.

May 15 to Nov 16

Turpentine Road Upgrade stages 2 & 3

Select Civil upgrade 8km of Turpentine Road South of Nowra for Shoalhaven City Council. The project is part of a federally funded Accident Blackspot program carried out to upgrade rural roads.

July 2017

Queensland Waste Operations Commence

Select Civil commenced our QLD waste services operations for Suez at the Hogans Pocket Landfill near Eton South West of Mackay.

Sept 17 to May 18

Sussex Inlet TM74 Watermain Upgrade

Select Civil install a major water main in Sussex Inlet.

Oct 2017

Marcel Equipment

Group Poisson was fortunate to purchase one of the main waste used equipment dealers in North America.

March 2018 to Nov 2018

Bolang & Back Forest Road

Consrtuction, Remediation & Drainage upgrades to Bolong & Back Forest Roads for Shoalhaven City Council.

Feb 2019

Greater Sydney Bridges

Commencement of the Greater Sydney Bridges project for Water NSW consisting of the upgrade & repair to 16 bridges Water NSW bridges in and around the Sydney catchment.

Dec 2021

GroundTec Equipment

Select Civil and Group Poisson were fortunate to purchase the Sandvik dealer for NSW and the manufacturer for the GTS Diamond Saw.

Our team

Select currently employs over 90 workers including Engineers, Plant Fitters, Office staff, Operators and Labour to maintain and carry out our projects. Select Civil’s employees work under a collaboratively developed EBA, that has contributed to a relatively low turnover of staff. Many of our employees have been trained and developed within the company.

Renaud Chauvet

Managing Director

Commencing as Managing Director in 2005 Renaud has spent 17 years in business subsidiary management, he holds an MBA in International Management and a Masters of Management in Corporate Finance from the University of Dallas, Texas. Renaud joined Select Civil in 2005 after a previous long-term experience in West Africa where he was working in Plant & Equipment distribution and the timber industry. The combination of Renaud’s knowledge & experience in waste & plant is often the sounding block for many of our clients to ensure equipment of the correct specifications is procured.

Graham Peace

General Manager

Graham joined Select Civil in 2005. He has in excess of 18 years working in civil and construction projects management, including the construction of sewerage pump stations, bulk excavation & soil treatment projects, mine rehabilitation projects, waste and waste cell construction, bridge construction and roadworks. Graham successfully managed projects in England & South Africa before immigrating to Australia in 2003. In his role General Manager for the company Graham provides support and guidance to all divisions of the business.

Peter ‘Wizz’ Wisniewski

Asset Manager

Peter is Select Civil’s plant and equipment manager, he has extensive knowledge of plant and equipment on major road, rail, mine and waste water development projects. His long operational experience of earthworks makes him an invaluable and respected asset to our site managers, estimators, operators and foremen. It is this experience that our wet hire clients recognise when hiring equipment from Select Civil. With over 20 years in Select Civil Peter is an invaluable part of our management team.

Dylan Julius

Operations Manager - NSW, VIC, QLD

Dylan began with Select Civil in 2005 as a skilled plant operator. His work ethic, experience on large commercial and industrial construction projects and dedication has seen him become a highly thought of and trusted member of the team. Dylan has progressed in Select Civil to become Landfill Operations manager for the Eastern seaboard overseeing all our landfill projects from Queensland to Victoria. Dylan has developed the knowledge, experience and skills to support and mentor our site managers in ensuring the clients requirements and expectations are met.

Raphael Vial

Operations Manager - WA

Raphael is Select’s Western Australian Operations Manager, bringing a decade of experience in various roles within the company to our WA business. Originally from France, he has developed a strong understanding of the business, with expertise spanning landfill management, waste handling, construction, mining, and heavy plant maintenance. His diverse background and hands-on knowledge are essential to the efficient operation and continued growth of Select in WA.

Mitch Bell

Business Development Manager

Mitch holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and has been an integral part of the Select Civil contracting team since 2012. Over this time, he has been involved in all aspects of project delivery, through Client liaison, tender preparation, project management, contract administration and site management, and has been involved in the successful delivery of the projects Select undertakes. Mitch brings his construction expertise into the Business Development role, adopting collaborative and open approach with Clients to ensure project goals are achieved.

Allan Farrell

Construction Manager

Allan has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, spread between the commercial building and civil sectors. With a background in plumbing, Allan poses extensive experience in managing complex projects from onsite. His attention to detail and heavy focus on Client satisfaction has ensured the successful delivery of a wide variety of Select’s projects in the last decade. Since joining Select Civil in 2006 Allan has always held a leadership role, growing into the role of Construction Manager in 2017 where he now oversees all of Select’s contracting projects.

Kilian James

Senior Project Engineer

Kilian is a passionate and energetic Project Engineer with diverse experience across civil infrastructure projects in France, England, and Australia. Always enthusiastic about new challenges, Kilian’s adaptability and commitment to delivering projects on time and within budget make him a key asset to Select Civil’s success and growth. Kilian oversees the technical and engineering aspects of all Select’s construction projects, as well as maintaining our Client base, preparing tenders and managing our live sites.

Peter Bill

Maintenance Manager

Peter joined the Select Civil team in 2014 as a workshop leading hand. Peter is a qualified plant and heavy vehicle mechanic with over 20 years’ experience. Peter has experience in construction, civil, mining and landfill on all types of equipment. Peter is an expert at coordinating services and maintenance repairs throughout NSW for Select Civil to ensure the most efficient plant for hire to meet customer requirements. Peter prides himself on working closely with clients and suppliers to ensure minimal downtime.

Workshop Manager

Anthony has over 15 years of experience as a heavy diesel mechanic. Originally trained and working in France, completing his apprenticeship with Caterpillar, he later moved to Australia and now leads Select’s workshop maintenance team. His extensive knowledge and hands-on expertise ensure the smooth operation of our fleet and equipment, playing a vital role in maintaining our high standards of service and safety.

His skills play a key role in enhancing Select’s financial operations and strategic planning.

Samantha Davies

Human Resource Manager

Samantha joined Select Civil in 2019. She has a Bachelor of Human Resources and in an integral part of the team. Samantha has a solid background of small office and people management before deciding to specialise in Human Resources. Samantha oversees recruitment and the on-boarding process for any new employees, health surveillance management and is our accredited Return to Work coordinator. Samantha is currently working closely with the management team to raise awareness and reduce the negative stigma of mental health in the work place.
