Cement Australia – 5 & 5A

Select Civil were contracted by Mainteck of Port Kembla to carry out the civil construction works for Package 5 & 5a of construction for the Cement Australia cement grinding facility in Port Kembla. The project included the construction of several conveyor and product bin footings, transformer station foundations and reinforced square column supported concrete floored mill substation.

A major component of the works was the mill substation super structure constructed of extensively reinforced concrete, consisting of:

• 80m³ footings
• 45m³ floor slab
• 40m³ 200mm thick elevated slab
• 20m³ square columns

The substation construction required significant scaffolding to ensure safety of workers on site.

The mill substation was a critical path item for the Cement Australia project, and was delivered to the client well within the project tolerances and on schedule.
